Grief After Suicide

Workshop with Jan Suren Möllers

Like all grief, grief after suicide is as diverse as the relationships, circumstances and people involved. In this workshop, we will explore grief as an ongoing process of responding to loss – to a changed relationship and a changed world. We will reflect on the cultural and gendered rules that shape the ways we grieve and mourn: What are we allowed or expected to show, share and need – and what are we expected to carry alone? Can grieving become a place where these rules become visible and negotiable?

Jan Suren Möllers is a cultural anthropologist, funeral worker, grief counsellor, author and trainer based in Berlin (Germany). He is co-founder of memento – Kultur:Trauer. His work explores grief, mourning and funerals, particularly after sudden and violent deaths and the cultural contexts that shape how we grieve and mourn.
